It’s July! My favorite month of the year! And, also a time when I like to talk about new beginnings— see this post. And, in the spirit of my last post about doing more music related posts, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to the video-schmideo feature on wordpress which should allow me to share videos, especially ones of my performances— few and far between though they may be!

I was very happy to be able to play a song at my good friends’, Jenn and Brodie’s, wedding recently. You can read more about them  here. They picked Blessed Assurance, a traditional hymn, for me to play during the lighting of their unity candle and communion. After playing around with the song for a few weeks, I finally decided on an arrangement that I felt would flatter my voice as well as compliment their ceremony.

I apologize for the quality of the picture— Ryan filmed the song on a whim (and I’m so glad he did!), so he didn’t exactly scope out the best seat in the house or bring a tripod or anything. Nevertheless, you’ll get the idea. It’s a bit faint in the beginning but it’ll pick up!

I’m so happy to be able to post that one of my best friends, Jenn McDaniel, recently got engaged to her boyfriend, Brodie Downs! This is a pic of Jenn and Brodie shortly after they met… I think this was taken in June of ’07.

Brodie had planned to pop the question during a trip they had scheduled to Haiti, but after snow kept their flight from getting out, he had to resort to Plan B and ended up popping the question back at home here in Charlottesville on December 26th.

Jenn and I met each other at U.Va. when I was going through rush as a 2nd year. I ended up pledging AXO, where Jenn was already a member, and we got to know each other through some common classes we were taking. Then, at the end of fourth year, when everyone was trying to decide what to do and where to move, Jenn and I figured out that we were both planning to stay in Charlottesville, so we decided to live together. Thus began, our three-year run, if you will, in River Run (the subdivision we were living in). Jenn and I did so much together those three years: walks in the neighborhood, Tuesday nights at South Street, watching cheesy chick-flicks together, NBC 29 parties, countless dinners and conversations, and everything in between. I was so blessed that Jenn could stand beside me as I got married, and now, I’m so happy to be a part of Jenn’s big day!

Note: Contrary to the title of this blog post “Jenn and Brodie!” this montage should probably be named “Jenn and Maria!”. What can I say, the groom always gets slighted!

Out at Mellow. One of my favorite pics of us!

And, here’s one of my favorite, favorite candid shots from my wedding. Photo by Liz Hough.

And, here’s all “my girls”– minus Mel! Love this one, too!

You can see more photos of our wedding here and here.

I know the entire celebration is going to be so joyous and beautiful… I can’t wait for the big day! Congrats Jenn and Brodie!

Family Friday

It’s Friday! And that calls for some lighthearted blogging material to make everyone feel all happy inside for the weekend. I really wanted to share this video that Ryan’s cousin Katie laboriously put together for our rehearsal dinner slideshow. It is really too cute. And has some forgotten-about pictures of both of our childhoods. I even think my mom and Peggy look kind of similar in some of the shots when Ry and I were babies… maybe just a little?

Click here to view the video on the Vimeo web site.

Later tonight, Ryan and I will head to DC to spend time with Ryan’s work family (DMB) and his real family (John and Peggy). It should be a good show. According to my stylist-extraordinaire and DC resident, Rachel, the whole town is buzzing with talk of Dave’s show tonight. Should be awesome.

Also, check out Rachel’s food blog, Sear, Simmer & Stir, that she just started up. Our family has officially caught blogging-fever… about 8 years after the rest of the world! Way to be on top of things Gerrards!

Well… as close as it can be. Ryan and I only get 7 months a year to mark our anniversary because we got married on the 31st of a month (you know… 30 days has September, April, June, etc.). So today, the 30th, is as close is we’re going to get to a true 6 month anniversary.

And, while I really wish I could celebrate today by digging into the rest of that Italian Cream Cake sitting in my freezer, I’ll commemorate with posting a few more wedding pics. Special shout out to Pat’sFloral Designs, Eric Stamer Catering and Festive Fare for helping me pull together the wedding of my dreams and a rockin’ New Year’s Eve party to boot!
